PROJECT: House of The Northern Gate | LOCATION: Caithness, Scotland | YEAR: 2020

House of the Northern Gate is an exclusive-use private house in the Scottish Highlands, available for holidays, family gatherings, weddings, and extended stays. With a remarkable setting on the north coast of Scotland, the house has generous living spaces and comfortable bedrooms. It is rented exclusively to one group at a time, giving guests complete freedom and privacy.

Positioned at the edge of Dunnet Head in Caithness, the house looks out across moorland, clear water, secluded sandy beaches, surf breaks, remote islands, and the open North Atlantic. Guests can walk to the beach on the estate, swim in sheltered bays, surf at nearby Dunnet Bay, hike coastal paths, or simply enjoy the space and stillness that define this part of the Highlands.

We were invited by the owners to design and supply the kitchen, which needed to be large enough to cater for up to 18 (or more!) guests, whilst remaining cosy and welcoming. The project took place before and during COVID. That, plus the distance to the house (it’s a 3 hour drive from Inverness airport!) made this one of most challenging and yet rewarding projects ever, in what can only be described as a remarkable house in a breathtaking spot.
